A NEW WAY FORWARD
Charles Dossett is the President of DOCON, INC, a construction company that performs general contracting and self-perform concrete. Charles started his business after serving a total of 15 years combined between active duty and reserves in the United States Army. As part of his leadership of DOCON, Charles is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Veterans Forward and is an active member of the Modesto Rotary.
Charles is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering as part of the Class of 2007. Following his commission as an officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Charles went on to serve six and a half years on active duty.
During his military career Charles was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and deployed to serve combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008, Charles served as an Airborne Platoon Leader and worked directly with the 82nd Airborne Division to lead the Light Airfield Repair package for the Global Response Force.
In 2009, Charles deployed to Iraq with the Army Corps of Engineers. During this one year deployment, Charles served as a project engineer and supervised $130 million of reconstruction. The results he drove yielded the construction of a prison, an air traffic control tower, and an aircraft hangar. The MI-17 Hangar was the largest clear span structure ever built in the Middle East when the project was finished. Charles returned from Iraq having been awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge.
Charles deployed for the third and final time to Afghanistan in October 2011 with the 7th Engineer Battalion. During this deployment, Charles was integrated with Counter-IED elements. These were the units that senior level command teams relied upon to ensure their forces could maneuver without being inhibited by roadside bombs. Charles returned home having planned and coordinated over 300 combat missions across five engineer companies.
After transitioning from active duty military service, Charles started a career in construction management and subsequently worked in a variety of management positions in the industrial and agricultural sectors. In 2015, Charles started DOCON, INC. which specializes in general contracting and self-perform concrete throughout the Central Valley region of California. In their first calendar year of business, his company exceeded $3,000,000.00 in revenue.
Recently, Charles launched the nonprofit organization, Veterans Forward, to combat veteran suicide. By fostering collaboration between fellow veterans and West Point graduates, Charles is leveraging his network to develop a proactive solution to prevent suicide within the veteran community.
Charles is a California native and lives in Modesto. The proud father of a 9-month-old girl, he is an avid outdoorsman who is committed to sharing and encouraging compassion and unity between people within diverse groups at every opportunity.
